Servant Leadership

By Hope Grafted In

Servant Leadership is a phrase that may be used inaccurately in Western culture today. It is often used to describe individuals that aren’t worthy of the title of Servant Leader like Jesus.

But today I want to share a story with you about my friend, George. I don’t need to give him the title of servant leader. I don’t need to tell you what a gracious Christ-follower I believe he is. I don’t need to tell you how much he challenges me in my faith.

His life speaks for me.

A few days ago, Hope Grafted In was honored to grant Ebenezer funds toward the development of their land. These funds would be used for surveying the land, bringing water to it, and building a fence around it.

George shared one of his dilemnas as a leader with us this week. In his words…

We were able to visit the home of one of our parents.
Unfortunately, the house in which she lives has a lot of weak points,
especially the roof may fall in any time. We felt we needed to save
this woman and her 5 children by making for her a small, but a better
house. I do not know if this would be a good idea. Honestly we need
a lot at Ebenezer, since we are still establishing ourselves, but we feel

there is a need to be part of serving God with thisfamily. We would love to get your advice on that.

Can you hear and recognize his struggle? He knows that the ministry God has called him to has many needs. He desires to be accountable as a leader. But as he serves God, he remains open to HIS daily leading. George is continually involved with the families of the children at Ebenezer. He views these families as a piece of his ministry to the community. In visiting with one of them he became concerned. He saw an unsafe structure that is the home for a widow and 5 of her children.

It will cost $700 to build this family a safe, simple, 2 room home. YES you read that correctly. George is going to build that home out of his obedience to God. He is going to lead as a servant. I know that honors our Savior.

We want to honor George’s gift and his commitment to serving others. Will you help us replace the land development funds for Ebenezer? Will you join us in raising the remaining funds needed to complete those projects?

Donations can be made here (choose Ebenezer and put “Land Development” in the comments area) or email us for more info!
