Sangaalo November Update

Our dear friends and partners,

Once again I greet you all in Jesus’ Mighty name. I really thank God for all that you are doing for the welfare of the precious babies at Sangaalo and Uganda as a whole. It is because of your support that these babies are who they are now and it is because of this support that their hope is being restored. I am grateful to share with you this end of the month of October update. We are thankful to God and happy to share with you the praises/ all that we have achieved in the month of October, but also challenges/ prayer items for the next month(s)

PRAISES

The babies

Here at the babies Home, we are doing well. God has really protected our babies, much as there have been some few cases of some sicknesses, which have been managed. Children are doing well and those, especially new ones who were malnourished are doing much better. Some of our younger babies are starting to walk. The general health of these babies is steadily improving. If you can remember Terri
one of our little ones, who came to us very malnourished and anemic, in fact she almost died during her first days at Sangaalo. she is over two years and was neither walking nor crowning like a normally growing child, probably due to very poor feeding before we received her. The good news however is that she is now beginning to walk.
We are really thankful for the visiting Home Doctor, who always visits weekly to assess the health situation of the babies.

One of our babies who had been admitted is discharged and is recovering steadily
As part of the requirement from the Ministry of Gender, Labor and Social Development, which is the line Ministry for the babies and children’s homes, all child/baby care workers/staff, must be tested for HIV/AIDS. I am therefore grateful to let you know that our staff has been tested. Because we must maintain confidentiality, we keep all their results as confidential as possible
The farm
I also thank our dear friends for their generous contribution towards the establishment of the farm. As you are aware, the farm is fenced and the construction of the structures is started. The cow pen has been erected and almost ready for the cows to be moved (that is probably after the construction of a farm attendant’s house and store).

Still on the farm, I am happy to let you know that we were able to plant some tomatoes and they are doing quite well much as they were somehow affected by drought. These tomatoes are almost starting to ripe and by the end of the week, I know we shall have started harvesting. Our small garden of plantains is doing well and some have some “matooke” which are about to be ready.

Sponsoring a Child

Sangaalo Sponsorships

We are so thankful for our sponsors. We have many children who still need a sponsor. They are pictured here. To find out more information, email us.

PRAYER ITEMS

Although we have praises to share, we also have some prayer items as seen below.

  • We still pray for God’s financial provision so that we can finish the paving of the remaining part of the area that is meant to be paved. This is a serious need not only because we want our children to be clean and free from mud during rainy season, it is seriously eroding the soil whenever it rains. The eroded soil is then carried down to the lower part which is already paved and at the end, mud is all over both to the paved and un paved area. The most dangerous part of this problem is that as the soil is eroded, the babies house is affected as the foundation becomes bare. If the upper part including the walkway to the kitchen/dining is paved, this problem will be no more.

  • We need to buy dining tables and chairs for our children. The old ones are not enough for all the children, but they are also wearing out. Some of the older children are forced to sit down on the mat while eating. It is a real struggle because all of them want to eat from the dining.
  • Some beds need serious repairs or replacement. Other bedding which need to be bought include bed covers/ small blankets, bedsheets and some mattresses.
  • If we can also get some food supplements at Sangaalo we have HiV+ Children, they need extra foods and fruits and Vitamins and we need help with improving their lives.
  • It is very dry here and yet it is supposed to be a rainy season. People have planted but there is no rain and now some of the crops are withering and drying up. If this continues, then it becomes so hard not only to the farmers but to institutions such as schools, childcare institutions and many others that consume food in bulk. In other words, food items are going to be scarce and the little on the marked will be very expensive. We therefore ask all of us to come to the Lord in prayer that it will rain and that there will be availability of food.
  • Give to Sangaalo’s needs here:

    Micro credit and savings program

The ladies have started saving and they all have high hopes establishing sustainability projects with the aim of being able to support themselves and their households. In this, these women are learning how to work hard with Christian values, because they must get money to save with the group. Just as I mentioned in the previous update, some of these ladies are HIV positive, some
aged and they are the guardians of the babies we are caring for at Sangaalo.

If God provides for a backup capital for this group, this money, together with part of their savings will build up the capital base for very low interest rate soft loans. This will keep them even busier working to clear their loans after which they will have built their own capital base. Our key aim is to see that they are financially better and that they can provide for their families including the babies at sangaalo when we resettle them back. Email us for more info on giving a microloan through Sangaalo!

May you all be blessed always.

    Love from Sangaalo

    Damalie
