Sangaalo January Update

A message from Damalie

Friends, the year 2016 is coming to an end and very glad to share with you all that has transpired within the year. Again God has been faithful to us as Sangaalo family. Much as there have been some challenges as will be outlined later, we have seen God’s hand. He has continued protecting and providing for the home. Because of what the Lord has done, we are therefore glad to share with you praises for the achievements in 2016 and challenges, but also prayer requests for the Year 2017. We are really thankful to all our dear friends for the support in 2016. You have supported us in all ways; financially, spiritually and morally, which is the reason as to why we have achieved all these that we have achieved.

2016 Achievements-Praise God!

1.The construction of a pavilion/outdoor dining hall for the children. We were able to construct a spacious dining hall that also act as a multi-purpose hall for other activities which enhance the well-being of these children.

2. Safe water source. The construction of a borehole came in handy as this is a big blessing not only to Sangaalo, but to the entire community. Women in the community, including children as young as five seven been trekking very long distances in search for safe water, which could pause risk to little lives especially young girls, but this is now no more.

3. Paving of the compound. Although not yet fully paved, part of the compound has been paved and this has eliminated not only dirt during play but also soil erosion has been eliminated (at least in the paved area).

4. Stone pitching. As you may be aware, the babies’ home was built on a hilly area and there was need for pitching to protect the soil from sliding. We are thankful to God that part of it is already stone pitched and we believe God for the provision to complete the stone pitching.

5. The farm. We are trying to develop our new site where we want to shift the farm to. We have already fenced the area using concrete poles and chain link, the cow pen has already been set up. The only problem is that we cannot let the cows fully stay there because we do not yet have a cow attendant’s quarter and a store constructed and yet the attendants need to stay on site for security purposes. The cows are however, taken there for grazing and still brought back, until God provides funding for the construction of a shelter for the farm attendants.

6. We were also able to renew our operation license (NGO permit) from the NGO Board, Ministry of Internal Affairs.

7. We have had all our staff and children tested to establish their sero status (HIV status). Although this is a Government requirement for all the children and staff in children’s/babies’ homes, to be tested for HIV, it is also good for an individual to as far as one’s health is concerned

8. In June, we were able to rescue three babies. One from a mentally sick mother who was loitering around with her with no care whether it heavily rains or harshly shines. This baby was very dark, malnourished and always sickly, but thankful to God that he is now doing well. Another baby rescued by police fire brigade. She was dumped in a pit latrine and had there been any delay, the life of this precious baby would have been lost. After rescue, she was rushed to Jinja Regional Referral Hospital for treatment. Maggots came out of every opening on her body, but Doctors did their best to save this baby and praise God that she is healthy. The third baby was rescued from Mabira forest, where he was dumped immediately after delivery. A passerby tipped the Najjembe police post of the incidence, and the Police rushed to rescue. The case was referred to Lugazi Central police Station while the baby was referred to Sangaalo

2016 Challenges

- We are currently facing challenges with water. The drilled water well at the home is not working because of the generator breakdown and now staff have to slope down at the community borehole at the school to get water. This is so hectic and time consuming fetching enough water for use.

- The staff is not enough and yet there is a lot of work that need to be accomplished in time each day. We pray we can sometime soon hire more.

- The food is becoming very expensive due to the prolonged drought that has affected most parts of the country, food prices have increased.

Sponsoring a Child

We are so thankful for our sponsors. We have many children who still need a sponsor. To find out more information, email us. Sangaalo Sponsorships

2017 Projects

These are the projects that we would want to accomplish in the next year, if God provides.

  • Security—We want to have a perimeter wall, the gate and the guards both during day and at night. Although as Christians we believe that without God, the guards guard in vain, but the condition is that we must maintain security for the children at all times.
  • We also pray for the provision so that we complete the paving on stone pitching of the remaining area on the compound. This will help eliminate soil erosion that is almost eroding of the foundation of the babies house.
  • We are having very hard time getting water for the daily use at the home so we are praying for a solar pump, because even if we repair the generator, it is very expensive to meet the running costs such as fuel. We also want to embark on harvesting rain water and storing it in big water reservoirs so that the home has constant water supply even during dry season
  • Completion of the farm is another project that we prayerfully want to accomplish. We hope to construct a cow attendant’s house and a store tor tools and feeds. We also, by God’s, want to construct a chicken/poultry coop so that chickens can as well be moved from the children’s home.

Thank you for being Jesus’ hands extended to these little ones throughout this Year. Your generous hearts will always be remembered and noticed. Together we can.
