OUR SUCCESS STORIES-Dickson

I did not meet my Father; please Meet Dickson, our children success story this month.

I had an opportunity to interact one on one with Dickson this week and this is how our chat went;

Hello Dickson, Can you tell me about your family please? His mind went blank for few minutes trying to gather patched pieces of his childhood. I knew he was struggling to respond to my question because through experience ministering to orphaned and abandoned children there is a pattern among them to want to forget their past. In most cases they pretend to erase any negative memory from their mind that may have occurred to them at tender age. It was emotional. When I noticed difficulties in responding to my questions, I started asking careful questions and this is how it went;

When did your father pass away?

Dickson: He passed away when I was still in my mother’s womb

What led to his death?

Dickson: A witch doctor bewitched my father and led him to death.

How many siblings do you have?

Dickson: There so many because my father was polygamous, he had many wives and many children

What was the state of the family after your father’s death?

Dickson : The family split, we are two brothers from the same mother, The elder children who were born by other women abandoned us. My mother struggled to take care of the two of us but there was not much success, she had no skills for survival. At 7 years, I was separated from my mother to an orphanage for an opportunity of education and survival. My elder brother did not get the opportunity I got and life was really hard for him till now. I lived in an orphanage for 18 years. I knew nothing called love and family, I grew up in a crowd on my own as you know the life in an institution. All I knew as siblings was my brother but lived separately and yet there other many of my father from different women who did not care at all about us and our mother. Life was so hard.

Do you know what your father looked liked?

Dickson: No I don’t, actually there no a clear photo of him alive. I feel bad about it, I always long for his image at least.

Thank you Dickson.

Today Dickson is doing a Bachelors degree in Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management in one of the best International Universities in Uganda. He is in his second year at 22 years of age. Return ministries was privileged to have him join our program when the orphanage where he grew up released him four years ago. We have seen him through high school to University. He has almost one year and a few months to be through with his academics. What a success story! Return ministries friends and sponsors have brought a complete image of family into the life of Dickson. As we bring the fatherhood of God, to replace the family he missed at a tender age. It is not easy doing this with any life. I have fought with him few times trying to redirect his value system and praise the Lord he has been responsive. It is my prayer he will live to see, love, protect and enjoy his own family.

All this glory goes to God and the sponsors of Dickson, thank you for being led to meet this boy. You are blessed for providing to him. Thank you all our friends for supporting us to do this work. We wish you a peaceful and joyful Christmas season and successful new year. Merry Christmas.
Be blessed.
